August 4, 2010 - Now Lebanon - Allouch accuses Hezbollah of treason if Hariri crime evidence is withheld

In an exclusive interview with NOW Lebanon published on Wednesday, former Future Movement MP Mustafa Allouch said that if Hezbollah has withheld evidence proving Israel’s involvement in the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, then it has committed treason.

“Hezbollah should quickly present to the people and the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) its alleged evidence, in case it exists,” he added.

Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said on Tuesday that he will reveal during a press conference on August 9 irrefutable evidence proving that Israel was behind the Rafik Hariri assassination.

Allouch said that Iran is Hezbollah’s reference, adding that the party will respond to Tehran, and not the Arab states, in case it wants tension to be escalated in the region.

Nasrallah’s Tuesday statements on the border clashes “once again prove that we disagree with him on [who is granted] the war and peace decisions [in Lebanon],” the former MP added.

“Hezbollah or any other party have no right to initiate any acts [on the behalf of the Lebanese army],” Allouch said.

Nasrallah said on Tuesday that Hezbollah fighters in South Lebanon were instructed to remain calm and not interfere in the clashes between the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Tuesday. However, he said that “the Resistance placed itself at the disposal of the LAF incase it needed assistance,” adding that the LAF’s task is to defend Lebanon, while Hezbollah will only intervene in case the Lebanese army needs support.
