August 9, 2010 - Now Lebanon - Gengenian: Hezbollah’s response should be directed to Israel

Ad-Diyar newspaper quoted on Monday Lebanese Forces bloc MP Shant Gengenian as saying that Hezbollah’s response to Israeli accusations should be directed to Israel and not to Lebanon.

As-Safir newspaper reported last month that Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi said that the Special Tribunal for Lebanon’s (STL), formed to probe the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, upcoming indictment, expected to be issued in September, may lead to the deterioration of the situation in the country.

Nasrallah said during a July press conference that Hariri told him in May the STL will indict Hezbollah members.

Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said earlier last week that he will reveal during a press conference on August 9 irrefutable evidence proving that Israel was behind the assassination.

Gengenian was surprised that the tribunal did not respond to Nasrallah’s accusations, such as his statement calling the tribunal an “Israeli project” aimed at harming the Resistance by stirring up sectarian strife.

“Hezbollah’s arms do not frighten us,” Gengenian said.

“If the tribunal’s indictment is illogical and is not based on evidence, then we will not support it,” the MP added.
