August 9, 2010 - Now Lebanon - Velayati dismisses reports accusing Hezbollah of Hariri’s murder

During a Monday press conference held in Damascus, Ali Akbar Velayati—the senior advisor for international affairs to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ali Khamenei—said that the reports accusing Hezbollah of being behind the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri “are Zionist,” AFP reported.

He called on the “Lebanese government, people and Resistance to confront such accusations,” warning that Israel should not intervene in Lebanon’s affairs.

“We believe that the accusations made by the Zionists before the Special Tribunal for Lebanon’s (STL) indictment is issued are political and illegal charges,” Velayati also said.

Velayati visited Lebanon last week, during which he met Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah on Wednesday.

Nasrallah said last Tuesday that he will reveal during a press conference on August 9 irrefutable evidence proving that Israel was behind the Rafik Hariri assassination.
