August 10, 2010 - Now Lebanon - Ban not authorized to speak about STL leaks, An-Nahar reports

An-Nahar newspaper reported on Tuesday that UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon refuses to comment on leaks from the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) because he does not have jurisdiction to do so.

Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said in July that that Prime Minister Saad Hariri told him that the STL—formed to probe the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri—would indict Hezbollah members.

Ban also said that UNIFIL troops in Lebanon help defuse tension and restore calm on the Israeli-Lebanese borders, the daily reported, adding that the peacekeeping force’s report on last week’s border will be submitted to the UN Security Council once it is complete.

The LAF and IDF exchanged fire along the northernmost section of their common border last week after Israeli troops attempted to cut down a tree along the Blue Line.

Two Lebanese soldiers, a journalist and a senior Israeli officer were killed in the clashes, according to sources from both sides.
