August 10, 2010 - Now Lebanon - STL is the only legal body authorized to examine Nasrallah’s evidence, Sayegh says

Minister of Social Affairs Selim Sayegh told NOW Lebanon in an exclusive interview on Tuesday that the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) is the only legal body authorized to examine the evidence presented by Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.

Nasrallah presented on Monday alleged evidence of Israel’s involvement in the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, including footage he said came from Israeli Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) monitoring Rafik Hariri and a confession from a suspected Israeli spy.

No one else has the evidence that the tribunal has regarding Rafik Hariri’s murder, Sayegh added.

Nasrallah’s press conference, including his refusal to hand over the data to the STL, was an obvious attempt to incite doubt on the tribunal’s investigation, he also said.

However, the minister added that Nasrallah provided interesting evidence, and called on the STL to take the information into consideration.

He voiced his hope that the intelligence provided by Nasrallah would be processed in a legal manner because broadcasting it across the media has only political purposes.
