General Security Tuesday arrested an NGO worker over suspected ties to an unnamed militant group, the state-run National News Agency said.

The NNA said that intelligence officers from General Security arrested Othman R. in the northern Akkar town of Halba, who works with an NGO providing support to Syrian refugees in the district.

It said the suspect was non-Lebanese, but did not provide other details.

Lebanon hosts an estimated 1.5 million Syrian refugees residing in camps scattered across the country, with most located in the eastern Bekaa Valley and north Lebanon.
