BEIRUT: Lebanese judiciary Tuesday acquitted Hannibal Gadhafi, the son of former Libyan president Moammar Gadhafi, in the case of defaming judiciary.
A judicial source told The Daily Star that Beirut Judge Ghassan Khoury annulled a previous verdict issued against Gadhafi on charges of defamating the judiciary.
However, Gadhafi will remain in custody for the case of the 1978 disappearance of Imam Musa Sadr.
Sadr, the founder of Lebanon's Amal movement, went missing along with two of his companions during an official visit to Libya in August 1978.
The three were visiting Libya at the invitation of Moammar Gadhafi.
Gadhafi last week apologized for slandering judiciary during a questioning session.
Gadhafi was charged in December by Investigative Judge Zaher Hamadeh for defaming the judiciary during questioning.
Judge Hamadeh also issued an arrest warrant against Gadhafi, saying the detained son of Libya's late strongman had made threats of violence during interrogation over the disappearance of a prominent Lebanese cleric.
Lebanese authorities arrested Gadhafi on Dec. 15, 2015.
