BEIRUT: Erika Feller, the Assistant High Commissioner for Protection at the office of the U.N. High Commission for Refugees, visited Syrian refugees in the border area of Wadi Khaled in north Lebanon Monday.
Accompanied by Yaacoub al-Helou, MENA director for UNHCR, a representative of Social Affairs Minister Wael Abu Faour and others, Feller toured Rama public school and a school in the village of Mashta Hammoud that are being used by the Higher Relief Committee as the two main centers for hosting Syrian refugees who fled the Syrian government’s crackdown.Earlier in September, a U.N. report said that nearly 4,000 Syrian refugees had fled to neighboring Lebanon between March and September.The delegation inspected renovation work at the two schools that is being undertaken by the Higher Relief Committee in coordination with the UNHCR.Feller also visited several Syrian families currently residing in the villages of Awwada and Rama in Wadi Khaled.
