The Daily Star - Amal MP, family escape car blaze unhurt - September 07, 2011

BEIRUT: Amal Movement MP Ali Khreis, his wife and children escaped a car fire overnight just as they arrived in south Lebanon on a family visit.
A security source told The Daily Star that Khreis was driving a 320-series Mercedes-Benz when its engine caught fire just as the politician was arriving in Bazourieh, near the southern port city of Tyre, to visit family.
In response, Khreis grabbed his wife and children before the fire engulfed the front part of the vehicle.
No one was injured in the incident, which took place just before midnight Tuesday.
Judicial police and a police criminal patrol arrived on the scene to investigate the incident as firefighters from the Civil Defense put out the blaze, the source said.
He said a Civil Defense expert was tasked with examining the car to determine the cause of fire.
Describing the incident as “ordinary,” the Tyre MP said Wednesday morning that “the fire was the result of gasoline leakage which burned the front part of the car.”
“There is no other reason, and I told security services this,” Khreis added.
