Iloubnan - Houry: STL protects country's political future, October 2, 2011

Future Bloc MP Aamar Houry warned Sunday during a TV interview of repercussions which will fall ON Lebanon and current government if it fails to fund the Special Tribunal. PM Najib Mikati and Finance Minister Mohammad Safady were debriefed about the risks of Lebanon not committing to international resolutions during their visit to the United States, according to Houry. Mikati's cabinet agreed to finance the STL in its ministerial statement and "Anyone who objected to this should resign from cabinet." The MP described failing to fund the STL as a "major mistake" which would subsequently lead to the fall of government. "Those who consider...Mikati's speech on financing the STL as unbinding for the government contradict the ministerial statement," said Houry, who reaffirmed that Mikati was the official spokesperson of the cabinet. In the final analysis, the MP summed up the protection of the country's political future in preserving the work of the Special Tribunal.
