Now Lebanon - Mikati reportedly considers Nasrallah’s STL statement “positive”, October 26, 2011

An unnamed source close to Prime Minister Najib Mikati told MTV on Wednesday that the latter said there are “positive signs” in Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s statement regarding the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL).“Nasrallah has not closed the door [on discussions] and his position was positive,” the source quoted Mikati as saying.Nasrallah said on Monday evening that his party is against paying Lebanon’s share of funding to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) because of the international court’s “aims, gaps and behavior,” adding that if ministers do not reach consensus, there is the option of casting a vote. The Hezbollah-led March 8 parties – which currently dominate Lebanon’s cabinet – have opposed a clause in the Lebanese annual state budget pertaining to the funding of the UN-backed court, while Mikati has repeatedly voiced Lebanon’s commitment to the tribunal.Four Hezbollah members have been indicted by the STL in the 2005 assassination of former PM Rafik Hariri. However, the Shia group strongly denied the charges and refuses to cooperate with the court.
Lebanon contributes 49 percent of the STL’s annual funding.
