The Lebanese Center for Human Rights (CLDH) is a local non-profit, non-partisan Lebanese human rights organization in Beirut that was established by the Franco-Lebanese Movement SOLIDA (Support for Lebanese Detained Arbitrarily) in 2006. SOLIDA has been active since 1996 in the struggle against arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance and the impunity of those perpetrating gross human violations.

Now Lebanon - Merhebi says Lebanese army intelligence assaulting citizens, October 6, 2011

Future bloc MP Mouin Merhebi on Thursday said that the Lebanese army intelligence units are “assaulting” citizens who are treating wounded Syrian refugees.The MP said in a statement that the army intelligence “abducted” a Lebanese man who was transporting an injured Syrian refugee to the hospital in the Bekaa border town of Qaa.“The army then beat the man and arrested the [Syrian] who was injured, along with his family,” Merhebi added in a statement.“We hope the army would [take action] against border violations and forbid the entry of armed groups [who support Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime],” he said.On Tuesday, Syrian army tanks crossed the Lebanese border near the Bekaa town of Aarsal and fired several gunshots on Lebanese territory, triggering condemnation from the western-backed March 14 parties.Media outlets reported that the tanks fired in the direction of a battery factory in Aarsal, adding that the Syrian troops suspected fleeing gunmen had taken refuge in the building.Thousands of Syrians have fled into Lebanon in recent months, often using illegal border crossings, to flee the unrest gripping their country.
