The Lebanese Center for Human Rights (CLDH) is a local non-profit, non-partisan Lebanese human rights organization in Beirut that was established by the Franco-Lebanese Movement SOLIDA (Support for Lebanese Detained Arbitrarily) in 2006. SOLIDA has been active since 1996 in the struggle against arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance and the impunity of those perpetrating gross human violations.

Now Lebanon - Mikati has “no right” to commit to STL’s funding, Wahhab says, October 6, 2011

Arab Tawhid Party leader Wiam Wahhab said that Prime Minister Najib Mikati does not have “any right” to solely commit to the UN-backed Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL)’s funding.
“Mikati does not have the right to promise [to commit to the tribunal], because the cabinet is [responsible] for making such decisions,” Wahhab told OTV on Wednesday night.
However, he added that the premier “can make such promises if he is willing to fund [the tribunal] out of his own pocket.”
“Mikati is not behaving like a real premier… because [we] cannot understand a single thing of what he is saying and we cannot protect his interests in exchange for losing the country.”
The Hezbollah-led March 8 parties – which currently dominate Lebanon’s cabinet – have opposed a clause in the Lebanese annual state budget pertaining to the funding of the tribunal, while Mikati has repeatedly voiced Lebanon’s commitment to the STL.
Four Hezbollah members have been indicted by the STL for the 2005 assassination of ex-Premier Rafik Hariri. However, the Shia group strongly denied the charges and refuses to cooperate with the court.
Lebanon contributes 49 percent of the STL’s annual funding.
