The Marada Movement on
Thursday denounced the statements of politicians who condemned the deportation
of 14 Syrian nationals back to their home country.
“Has implementing the law
become a crime in Lebanon? Do some politicians perceive the intervention of
ambassadors in internal affairs as a sovereign [phenomenon]?” the statement
issued by the Marada Movement read.
The statement added that,
“We wish the General Security had issued a decision to deport certain politicians
who have not served [anything] but the interest of Lebanon’s enemies.”
Earlier on Thursday, Lebanon deported 14 Syrians despite the raging violence over the border, drawing
criticism from human rights activists. The Lebanese authorities said the reasons for the expulsions were not political but a Human Rights Watch representative in Beirut said some of the deportees had expressed fears of persecution upon their return.
