The Lebanese Center for Human Rights (CLDH) is a local non-profit, non-partisan Lebanese human rights organization in Beirut that was established by the Franco-Lebanese Movement SOLIDA (Support for Lebanese Detained Arbitrarily) in 2006. SOLIDA has been active since 1996 in the struggle against arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance and the impunity of those perpetrating gross human violations.

Naharnet - Five Gunmen Abduct Syrian from Baalbek's Iaat, August 25 2012


Five gunmen in a Grand Cherokee SUV on Friday kidnapped Syrian national Ata Hassan Alloush, 32, state-run National News Agency reported.
NNA said the gunmen abducted Alloush from his vegetable greenhouse at the intersection of the Baalbek town of Iaat and took him to an unknown location.
Al-Meqdad clan has claimed the abduction of around 20 Syrians and a Turkish national in retaliation to the rebel Free Syrian Army’s kidnapping of a family member, Hassan al-Meqdad, in Damascus last week.
The clan later said it was calling off "military operations" and would halt abductions for now.
An obscure group calling itself al-Mukhtar al-Thaqafi Brigade has also claimed the abduction of several Syrians in Lebanon.
Lebanon has been grappling with heightened security fears after the spate of kidnappings that came in retaliation for the abduction of Lebanese citizens in Syria.
Eleven Lebanese Shiite pilgrims were abducted in the northern Syrian town of Aazaz on May 22. They entered Aazaz by bus from neighboring Turkey and were on their way back from pilgrimage in Iran.
