Lebanon First bloc MP Samir al-Jisr said that Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Mouallem’s information that the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) will indict Hezbollah members is new, however the Syrian stance regarding the tribunal is not, Akhbar al-Yawm news agency reported on Wednesday.
Mouallem said earlier on Wednesday that “the STL has become politicized,” adding that indicting Hezbollah members for the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri “will sink Lebanon into sectarian violence.”
“How did [Syria acquire] this information if the investigation is confidential and STL Prosecutor General Daniel Bellemare said that the indictment had not even been written yet?” the MP asked.
Damascus has refused to recognize the tribunal ever since its establishment, Jisr also said.
