“Apparent practices and [available] information do not indicate a high level of professionalism” for the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL), the National News Agency quoted Development and Liberation bloc MP Anwar Khalil as saying on Sunday.
Tension is currently high in Lebanon as some March 8 coalition politicians are calling for the tribunal’s abolition.
There is still a Lebanese consensus on finding out the truth about former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri’s 2005 murder, but now there is a “discussion about the actual methods and tools that [can] bring us to the truth without being exploited by international elements for political ends,” Khalil said.
Since the international investigation was previously misled by false testimonies, it is logical to fear that problems may recur with the STL, he added.
