“In the past five years, there are people who committed the greatest crime of this era—the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL),” head of Hezbollah Political Council Ibrahim Amin al-Sayyed said Monday in a statement issued by his office.
“False witnesses participated in this crime,” he also said, adding that “the problem is not with them, because they were only small cheap tools… fabricated and manipulated by some politicians.”
Sayyed threatened that he could mention the names of such politicians if necessary, saying that the trial of those behind the false witnesses is the only way to reach the truth about former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri’s 2005 murder.
Tension is currently high in Lebanon as some March 8 coalition politicians are calling for the abolition of the STL, while Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun and former head of General Security Jamil as-Sayyed have publicly attacked the government.
