Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar will tell the cabinet that the issue of false witnesses in the international investigation of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri’s 2005 assassination falls within the jurisdiction of the Lebanese judiciary, al-Manar quoted an anonymous source as saying on Sunday.
On August 18 the cabinet delegated Najjar to follow up on the issue. March 8 parties – including Hezbollah and the Free Patriotic Movement – have called for forming a Lebanese commission to follow up on the false witnesses’ issue.
Najjar will also say that false witnesses are not within the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL)’s jurisdiction and that the documents from their testimonies are in Lebanon, not the Hague, al-Manar’s report said.
