The Internal Security Forces (ISF) issued a statement Saturday that former General Security chief Jamil as-Sayyed is distorting the facts by claiming that there was more than one phone call between ISF Information Branch head Wissam al-Hassan and Sayyed on February 14, 2005, the day of former Premier Rafik Hariri’s assassination.
Sayyed said Friday that Hassan called him on the morning of February 14 in order to arrange a visit to thank him in Hariri’s name for a detainee’s release, adding that the call the ISF had earlier disputed was separate and had taken place in the evening after Hariri’s assassination.
The ISF had issued a statement Friday that Sayyed had called Hassan.
Sayyed called Hassan at 5.05 p.m. on February 14, the ISF statement said, adding that there was no other call that day between the two and that the ISF is distributing the complete February 14 call records from Hassan’s phone as evidence.
