Now Lebanon - Turkish FM: Ignoring STL is impossible - September 28, 2010

In an interview with Al-Hayat newspaper published on Tuesday, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that “it is impossible to ignore the probe of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL), which should not operate outside its legal framework and be politicized.”

Tension ran high in Lebanon after reports said that the STL would soon issue its indictment in the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

Davutoglu also said that Turkey would not mediate possible Syrian-Israeli peace talks “before Tel Aviv stops escalating tension in the Middle East and before it issues an apology for raiding the Turkish-flagged aid flotilla bound to Gaza on May [31],” which left nine Turkish activists dead.
