Now Lebanon - Bellemare’s statements confirm STL politicized, Arslan says - September 1, 2010

Following his meeting with Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun in Rabieh, Lebanese Democratic Party leader MP Talal Arslan said that the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) Prosecutor General Daniel Bellemare’s Tuesday statements “confirm that the STL is politicized”, the National News Agency (NNA) reported on Wednesday.

Bellemare told NOW Lebanon in an exclusive interview Tuesday that the tribunal will not file in September an indictment in the case of the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

Arslan also said that talks about last week’s Bourj Abi Haidar clashes are useless before the investigation ends, adding that weapons are spread in the entire country.

Following a deadly street battle that shook the Bourj Abi Haidar district in the Lebanese capital on August 24, pitting supporters of Hezbollah against those of Sunni outfit Al-Ahbash – also known as Association of Islamic Charitable Projects –March 14 figures called for a “weapons-free Beirut.”
