SIDON, Lebanon: A suspect in the recent killing of the bodyguard of a senior Fatah commander in the Palestinian refugee camp of Ain al-Hilweh was handed over to the Lebanese Army Friday.
Suspect Abdel-Razzak al-Ghazzi turned himself overnight to Brig. Gen. Mahmoud Isaa, head of the Fatah-dominated Palestinian Armed Struggle police force in the camp, better known as “Lino.”
In turn, Ghazzi, 35, was handed over to Lebanese Army Intelligence at dawn Friday.
Amer Fustoq, Lino’s bodyguard, was shot and killed at Ain al-Hilweh’s vegetable market on Dec. 15.
While Palestinian sources said Ghazzi, an officer in the mainstream Fatah Movement, has confessed to the crime, Fatah military commander in Ain al-Hilweh Brig. Gen. Munir Maqdah said the Palestinian suspect denied the allegations.
“Despite his denial, we insisted that he be handed over to the Lebanese Army for interrogation,” Maqdah told The Daily Star Friday.
“We told Lebanese authorities that we have lifted immunity of criminal conduct,” Maqdah said.
