iloubnan- Charbel supports agreeing on unified election law, December 20, 2011

Municipalities and Interior Minister Marwan Charbel confirmed the necessity of agreeing over a unified electoral law because the old one does not guarantee Christian rights. 

Charbel said it was necessary to discuss his electoral project based on proportionality which was presented to the government upon cabinet and ministerial statement recommendation. 

Speaking to "Voice of Lebanon ", he explained that Bkerki gathering studied the Orthodox proposal and constituted a follow up committee to communicate with other Lebanese parties; denying that this step would mean that they agreed on the proposal. 

"It is impossible to reach an electoral law that satisfies all parties, but rather one which most of them approve," Charbel said. 

He added that if they did not reach any draft, there would be another proposition for another elections law of two sessions, explaining that during the first session only Christians vote for the Christian candidate while as Christians and Muslims vote for the final candidate in the second session of elections.
