The Lebanese Center for Human Rights (CLDH) is a local non-profit, non-partisan Lebanese human rights organization in Beirut that was established by the Franco-Lebanese Movement SOLIDA (Support for Lebanese Detained Arbitrarily) in 2006. SOLIDA has been active since 1996 in the struggle against arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance and the impunity of those perpetrating gross human violations.

The Daily Star - Ministry, NGO launch new civic curriculum, April 17, 2014



The Education Ministry along with the Adyan Foundation launched Wednesday a civic education curriculum based on fostering an increased sense of citizenship.

“The school curriculum is the most important method of strengthening civic pride mentally and scientifically and to understand and practice citizenship and patriotism,” said Fadi Yaraq, director general of the Education Ministry. He was representing Education Minister Elias Bou Saab.

He added that the civil education curriculum would be integrated in training sessions for teachers and in the formal school curriculum.

“Philosophy and culture books will be the first to be amended” in accordance with to the new curriculum, he said.

Project coordinator Huda Barakat praised efforts made to finalize the project.

“This curriculum is considered a reference point in the process of developing the entire Lebanese curriculum, to teach the new generation about values such as patriotism, diversity and coexistence, so that the concept of citizenship can become a common context for cultural and religious diversity,” he said.

The CEO of Adyan, Father Fadi Daou stressed that special training sessions would be held for teachers.

The Adyan Foundation is an independent non-governmental organization that operates in Lebanon and abroad, regionally and internationally, by implementing different cultural, educational, social and spiritual programs.

British Ambassador to Lebanon Tom Fletcher, whose country financed the project, said he was proud he was able to support the pioneering project, adding that it “represents the hope for Lebanon’s future and education in this country.”

“This can be a model for other countries to follow,” he said.
