An international court set up to investigate the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri ordered a television journalist to pay 10,000 euros ($11,183) after being convicted earlier this month of contempt of court.
The prosecution had sought a one-year prison sentence and 100,000 euro fine for Karma al-Khayat, the vice president of Al-Jadeed.
She was convicted by the Special Tribunal for Lebanon on Sept. 18 of contempt of court for ignoring orders to remove reports on secret witnesses from Al-Jadeed's website in 2012.
However, the judge had found Khayat not guilty of the more serious charge of "undermining public confidence" in the court by publishing the reports.
Khayat and her news organization were charged last year with "knowingly and willfully interfering with the administration of justice" over a series of five reports aired in Aug. 2012 titled "The Witnesses of the Tribunal."
The reports revealed identifying information of secret court witnesses, which the prosecution argued put lives at risk, harmed their ability to make a case and jeopardized the public's confidence in the court.
The STL subsequently ordered Al-Jadeed to remove the reports from its website, but the order was ignored until October 2013.
