Al-Liwaa: Bellemare uses preemptive measure to Nasrallah speech - September 2, 2010

Al-Liwaa newspaper quoted on Thursday a Hezbollah source as saying that Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) Prosecutor General Daniel Bellemare’s position is a preemptive measure to Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s expected speech on Friday.

Bellemare told NOW Lebanon in an exclusive interview Tuesday that the tribunal will not file in September an indictment in the case of the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

The daily also quoted a March 14 coalition source as saying that Bellemare’s statements might weaken Hezbollah’s campaign against the STL.

During a July speech, Nasrallah said that the tribunal’s indictment was an “Israeli project” designed to target Hezbollah by stirring up sectarian strife in Lebanon.

The indictment is likely to be issued at the beginning of December, Al-Liwaa quoted an unnamed Arab official as saying.
