Now Lebanon - Fatfat: Bellemare’s statements show STL credible

Lebanon First bloc MP Ahmad Fatfat told Tele Liban on Wednesday that Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) Prosecutor General Daniel Bellemare’s Tuesday statements have shown that the STL is credible and that rumors related to it were proven wrong.

Bellemare told NOW Lebanon in an exclusive interview Tuesday that the tribunal will not file in September an indictment in the case of the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri and emphasized the fact that the STL is not politicized.

Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said in July that the STL is an “Israeli project” designed to target Hezbollah by stirring up sectarian strife in Lebanon.

Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MP Nawwaf Moussawi’s August 28 statement that Beirut clashes were being exploited to render the Resistance defenseless against a potential indictment is very dangerous, Fatfat added.

A deadly street battle shook the Bourj Abi Haidar district in the Lebanese capital on August 24, pitting supporters of Hezbollah against those of Sunni outfit Al-Ahbash – also known as Association of Islamic Charitable Projects – two parties with warm ties to Damascus.
