Daily Star - Mitri urges independence in journalism - September 24, 2010

BEIRUT: Information Minister Tarek Mitri called on journalists to remain independent from political influences, during a meeting he held with foreign reporters on Thursday. The minister discussed with journalists from foreign media outlets in Lebanon the aggressive language found in the country’s media today because of the hostile accusations of politicians. He urged journalists and media outlets to be more independent from politicians in order to lessen the severity of the language employed and improve media credibility. He denied rumors that embassies had warned their citizens to leave Lebanon or not visit it. “This information is not true,” he said. – The Daily Star
