Daily Star - UNDP inaugurates two 'green' projects - September 24, 2010

BEIRUT: Two “green” projects were inaugurated in the south of the country on Thursday as part of a United Nations Development Fund (UNDP) ART Gold drive to reverse Lebanon’s environmental degradation. Solar panels fitted to the roof of public hospital in Meis Jabal, as part of the “Increasing Energy Efficiency and the Application of Renewable Energy Resources” drive, will now help heat much of the building’s hot water, cutting bills and reducing electricity use. The building is the pilot project for the scheme which will promote solar heating in public and health institutions across Lebanon. A waste disposal project in Taibeh was also inaugurated in presence of Italian Ambassador, Gabriel Checchia, UNDP country director Seifeldine Abbaro and local officials. – The Daily Star
