Now lebanon - Threatening Hariri is unacceptable, says Hobeich - September 23, 2010

Lebanon First bloc MP Hadi Hobeich told the Voice of Lebanon (VOL) radio station on Thursday that threatening Prime Minister Saad Hariri is unacceptable.

Attorney General Judge Said Mirza summoned former General Security chief Jamil Sayyed for questioning last week after the latter said that “[PM Saad Hariri] should take a lie detector test to prove he did not support or fund false witnesses in the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL).” Sayyed also vowed to take his right “with his own hands.”

“Anyone can take their right through the judiciary and [relevant state] institutions, but issuing threats against the PM is not acceptable,” Hobeich said.

He added that the March 8 coalition wants to reach compromises at the expense of the STL.

The MP voiced his commitment to the tribunal, adding that its pending indictment should not be politicized.
