BEIRUT: Kuwait has offered $7.9 million in aid to Syrian refugees in Lebanon, Kuwaiti News Agency Kuna reported Saturday.
The U.N. refugee agency made the announcement earlier in the week.
The UNHCR said that the grant would help around 25,000 Syrian refugee families in Lebanon.
“For the fourth consecutive year, Kuwait has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to addressing the humanitarian consequences of the Syria situation,” the UNHCR Commissioner Filippo Grandi said.
“With the winter season fast approaching, this timely contribution will significantly support thousands of Syrian refugee families as they brace for the cold months ahead.”
UNHCR has registered some 1.1 million Syrian refugees in Lebanon, however the Lebanese government estimates the total figure to be closer to 1.5 million.
