Lebanon First bloc MP Okab Sakr told Al-Jazeera television on Thursday that the Special Tribunal for Lebanon’s indictment should not be looked at based on media leaks but based on evidence and facts.
Sakr also said that if the STL’s confidentiality was infiltrated, then this is rejected, adding that evidence which the tribunal will present must be looked into.
“It is important to [read] the indictment away from interpretations and [without accusing] others of treason.”
The MP added that the indictment “did not accuse Hezbollah,” but it named certain individuals
Earlier on Thursday, the STL submitted a sealed indictment and arrest warrants to Lebanon’s Prosecutor General Said Mirza, AFP reported.
A judicial official told AFP that four Lebanese suspects are named in the indictment.
Local media said at least two of them were members of the Iranian and Syrian-backed Hezbollah, which has warned it would defend itself if accused.
The UN-backed STL, based near The Hague, is investigating the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.
