Phalange Party leader Amin Gemayel stated on Thursday that the release of the indictment in the investigation into the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri will pave the way for the beginning of international justice to take effect.
He said during a press conference after an extraordinary meeting for the Phalange Party: “There can be no partnership without the truth and no unity without the truth and no constitutional institutions without the truth.”
“No one is too great to avoid justice,” he stressed.
Gemayel added that justice should reach all sides involved in the crime and all judicial and security forces should perform their duties in implementing the international decision.
“The political powers have no excuses in failing to implement international decisions,” he stated.
“We will not be lenient with anyone who does so and we will seek all democratic measures to fulfill the international decision,” he continued.
“The indictment is an historic opportunity and it paves the way for activating the Lebanese judiciary and we will not allow any side to waste this opportunity for us,” he stated.
The Phalange Party leader pointed out that the new government policy statement referred to the STL in vague terms, therefore demanding that it deal with the matter with honesty.
“We pledge that we will follow up on the STL’s work in order to meet the aspirations of the citizens and the families of martyrs,” Gemayel declared.
Moreover, he noted that some members in cabinet are affiliated with some names mentioned in the arrest warrants that accompanied the indictment.
The warrants allegedly included Hizbullah members.
