The Lebanese Center for Human Rights (CLDH) is a local non-profit, non-partisan Lebanese human rights organization in Beirut that was established by the Franco-Lebanese Movement SOLIDA (Support for Lebanese Detained Arbitrarily) in 2006. SOLIDA has been active since 1996 in the struggle against arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance and the impunity of those perpetrating gross human violations.

The Daily Star - Country sees spate of armed robberies, burglaries - July 22, 2011

BEIRUT: Gold, diamonds and bathroom appliances were among the targets in several armed robberies and burglaries that took place across the country in the past 24 hours and topped Thursday’s police reports, a security source told The Daily Star. On Makdisi Street in Hamra, a man on a motorcycle snatched a Saudi woman’s purse which contained a diamond ring worth $20,000, identification papers and two mobile phones.
Elsewhere, a woman who took a silver Mercedes cab from the area of Ouzai to Barbir was verbally assaulted by the driver who held a knife to her face when they reached the Shatila area. The woman left the cab, leaving her purse inside, after which the cab driver stole $200 and threw the purse on the street, the source said.
In Al-Qaa in the northern Bekaa, the driver of a van pulled a knife on Syrian passenger Farhan Hamoud, 19, and robbed him of 6,000 Syrian pounds.
Meanwhile, in the town of Jal al-Dib in Metn, two thieves broke into a room inhabited by four Syrian workers and robbed them of their money at gunpoint. Similarly, in the village of Ainata in Bint Jbeil, two thieves entered a room inhabited by Syrian workers and robbed them of their money at gunpoint after impersonating policemen.
Elsewhere, a Syrian man filed a complaint at the Ramlet al-Baida police station that two men on a black motorcycle pulled a knife on him and robbed him of his identification cards and $100 in the Beirut neighborhood of Cola.
A man filed a complaint in Burj al-Barajneh that thieves broke into his real estate office in the area of Jamous, stealing $12,000 worth of sinks and bathroom appliances.
In the village of Bibnine in Akkar, a thief broke into Fouad Taleb’s home and stole LL40 million worth of gold as well as LL5 million in cash, while in Zouk Mosbeh, Kesrouan, a thief broke into Gisele Nakhle’s home, stealing $4,500, 5,000 Canadian dollars, and two iPhones.
Thieves also broke into Rawad Abboud’s home in Jeitawi and stole $3,500 and gold worth $2,500. Elsewhere, in the village of Al-Marj in the Bekaa, a thief broke into Ibrahim al-Jarrah’s home and robbed him of $5,000 in gold.
