The Future bloc issued a statement on Tuesday that it will follow up on Prime Minister Najib Mikati’s vow to commit to the UN-Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL), which is probing former PM Rafik Hariri’s 2005 assassination.
“[Mikati’s] stances are like a binding statement for the [new] cabinet… and we will thoroughly follow up their execution,” the statement said.
The Future bloc also called on the government – dominated by the Hezbollah-led March 8 coalition – to deal with daily affairs and administrative issues.
The bloc also urged the cabinet to “take the necessary measures” through the UN to acquire Lebanon’s rights in demarcating the country’s maritime borders.
Israel's cabinet on Sunday approved a map of the country's proposed maritime borders with Lebanon to be submitted for a UN opinion.
The Lebanese government won a parliamentary vote of confidence last Thursday, as Mikati vowed that his cabinet would cooperate with the STL that charged Hezbollah members in Rafik Hariri’s murder.
However, Hezbollah ruled out the arrests of his party members and declined cooperation with the tribunal.
