ZAHLE, Lebanon: Around 250 volunteers participated in cleaning up the country’s Litani River Sunday as part of Operation Big Blue Association’s “Cleaning the Lebanese Rivers” initiative.
After cleaning Abu Ali River in North Lebanon, OBBA launched its first cleaning campaign in the Bekaa region.
Around 250 volunteers from across the country, including 100 of the region’s residents, participated in cleaning up around 2,000 square meters of the Litani River for two consecutive days, during which tons of household, industrial and organic waste were pulled out of the river.
According to the association’s coordinator, Nazih al-Rayes, volunteers were faced with several difficulties while cleaning the wastewater of restaurants and cafes located near the banks of the river.
