To political analyst Sami Nader, the decision to fund the Special tribunal for Lebanon came from Russia.
In your opinion, why did Mikati decide to fund the Special tribunal for Lebanon that way?
PM Najib Mikati could nothing but take the decision to fund the tribunal: if he had not done so, he would have exposed himself and Lebanon to serious consequences on economic and political levels, and would have exposed the country to confrontation with the international community.
What is your comments about the claims that say Mikati got the Okay from Hezbollah before deciding to fund the STL?
The Syrians are obliged to fund the tribunal: Russia asked them to do so, and this country is now the main and essential supporter of the Syrian regime, which entered into a big confrontation with the Arab world especially with the Sunnites. Russia asked the Syrian regime to facilitate the funding, so the funding came following an international demand. If the Syrians had the choice not to fund the STL they wouldn’t have done it. The role of Lebanon is very small regarding this issue.
What about the doubts on the legality of funding? The money is issued by the Lebanese treasury. Each expense must be subject to the decision of the Cabinet. One part of the money comes from the allocations of Mikati. For people, this money came from the lebanese PM, and currently we can't talk about any doubts concerning the funding.
Do you think that the Change and Reform bloc's ministers will resign?
If the change and reform bloc wants to withdraw its ministers from the government, that would be because they are feeling that the regional political equation is changing and they want to get out of this situation with the minimum of losses. And on another level they are trying to achieve some gains on the level of cabinet’s appointments, and to finance projects under the framework of investment expenditures.
However, the vision for an economic development is absent from this government, there is no constitutional institutions that Monitor the performance of the cabinet.
