The Daily Star - Man escapes kidnappers in Burj Barajneh, March 14, 2012

BEIRUT: A man escaped the clutches of three alleged kidnappers overnight in Beirut’s southern suburb of Burj Barajneh, a security source said Wednesday.
The source, speaking to The Daily Star on condition of anonymity, said Zainab Mohammad Assaf reported to police that brothers Fadi, Ali and Hasan al-Qaafarani had kidnapped her husband Izzat Ali al-Haj, 37.
Two hours later, Haj showed up at the police station to report that he had managed to flee his kidnappers by jumping out of the window of a car in which he was being transported and running away.
Haj said his abductors' financial problems were the motives behind the kidnapping.
But Haj, according to the sources, escaped his captors only to be thrown in jail after it was discovered that he is wanted on several felonies.
Separately, the sources said, a police patrol from the Drug Control Office arrested drug dealer Mohammad Allaw following a shootout with patrol members in Mreijeh, south Beirut.
His wife, Hanan Miqdad, who was in his company, was also arrested, the sources added.
