The Daily Star - Family steps up campaign for Aisamy’s release, March 6, 2012

BEIRUT: A gathering will be held Tuesday in the mountain town of Aley to demand that a Syrian dissident who went missing last year be freed, as his family prepares to escalate their campaign for his release.
A Progressive Socialist Party official told The Daily Star that protesters will gather at 4 p.m. at the entrance to Aley, in an event called the “Tuesday of Loyalty and Freedom for longtime political activist and intellectual Shibli Aisamy.”
“We are preparing for escalatory moves so that he is released safely,” said a statement from Aisamy’s family. Aisamy, 88, who was once a Syrian vice president, disappeared last May while out walking in Aley. His family says it was informed that he is currently in Syria.
“We call upon the honorable and loyal people of Jabal al-Arab in Syria along with Lebanon and Jordan to take action on the ground to pressure the Syrian regime to release him,” said his family.
“We remained silent over the past nine months in order to give a chance to diplomatic and political efforts through local and international channels,” added the statement. “But unfortunately, this did not lead to any effective result.”
