U.S. Ambassador to
Lebanon Maura Connelly conveyed on Thursday to President Michel Suleiman the United States ’
“deep concern over reports of an assassination attempt on a leading Lebanese
political figure.
She noted that Lebanon ’s embrace of and support for the Special
Tribunal for Lebanon
demonstrates it has definitively rejected such practices.
The ambassador also shared
with the president highlights from the discussions she had in Washington
in March as part of the Secretary of State’s annual conference with all U.S.
Ambassadors worldwide.
On Wednesday, Lebanese
Forces leader Samir Geagea was the victim of an assassination attempt by
snipers as he was taking a walk on the grounds of his Maarab residence.
