The Lebanese Center for Human Rights (CLDH) is a local non-profit, non-partisan Lebanese human rights organization in Beirut that was established by the Franco-Lebanese Movement SOLIDA (Support for Lebanese Detained Arbitrarily) in 2006. SOLIDA has been active since 1996 in the struggle against arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance and the impunity of those perpetrating gross human violations.

Naharnet - Connelly Meets Suleiman: Lebanon’s Support of STL Proves its Rejection of Political Assassinations, April 05, 2012


U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Maura Connelly conveyed on Thursday to President Michel Suleiman the United States’ “deep concern over reports of an assassination attempt on a leading Lebanese political figure.
She noted that Lebanon’s embrace of and support for the Special Tribunal for Lebanon demonstrates it has definitively rejected such practices.
The ambassador also shared with the president highlights from the discussions she had in Washington in March as part of the Secretary of State’s annual conference with all U.S. Ambassadors worldwide.
On Wednesday, Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea was the victim of an assassination attempt by snipers as he was taking a walk on the grounds of his Maarab residence.
