Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun said in remarks published on Friday that Lebanon’s judicial authority “made its decision” on the case of Fayez Karam, a high-profile member of Aoun’s Free Patriotic Movement who had been detained for collaborating with Israel.
Karam—who was arrested in August 2010 and sentenced to two years in prison for leaking information to Israel—was released from prison on April 3.
“The greatest traitor was an officer who [was coordinating] with the Lebanese Forces’ security agencies and leaked confidential data about the [Lebanese] army during the [clashes between the Lebanese Forces and Lebanon’s Armed Forces during the civil war],” Aoun told Al-Akhbar newspaper.

“[The officer’s treason] cost the lives of many [people].”
Lebanon’s military institution was led by Aoun during the Lebanese civil war.
Leader of the Lebanese Forces Samir Geagea is one of Aoun’s chief Christian rivals.
