The Lebanese Center for Human Rights (CLDH) is a local non-profit, non-partisan Lebanese human rights organization in Beirut that was established by the Franco-Lebanese Movement SOLIDA (Support for Lebanese Detained Arbitrarily) in 2006. SOLIDA has been active since 1996 in the struggle against arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance and the impunity of those perpetrating gross human violations.

Now Lebanon - Lebanese activist refuses to attend Military Court hearing

Lebanese national and activist Nour Merhab said on Wednesday that he will not attend the Military Court hearing set for July 1 on the charges of assaulting a police officer, the National News Agency (NNA) reported.

Merhab said that he will face any order for his arrest with passive resistance and will go on an open food strike should he be imprisoned.

He called on the Lebanese government and Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar to issue a law canceling the Military Court’s right to put civilians on trial.

Meanwhile, the Foundation for Human and Humanitarian Rights said in a statement on Wednesday that the state should review all measures and jurisdiction given to the Military Court over civilian trials as well as to transfer charges filed against civilians to the Civilian Court.
