Future Movement official Mustafa Allouch said in an interview published on Friday that the cabinet will not be able to evade its responsibilities toward the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL), and will deal with it “whether [the cabinet] likes it or not.”
Allouch told Kuwaiti newspaper As-Seyassah that the STL was instituted to find out who is behind the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, adding that such a matter concerns all of Lebanon and not only a certain Lebanese party.
When asked about the opposition’s plan to overthrow Najib Mikati’s cabinet, Allouch said “responsible protests may be held.”
Mikati’s cabinet, which was formed in June, was granted parliament’s vote of confidence on Thursday, as the PM vowed his cabinet would cooperate with the UN-backed STL.
However, Mikati's program includes an ambiguously worded clause stipulating that Lebanon will "respect" international resolutions as long as they do not threaten peace and stability.
