The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) issued a statement on Monday that it facilitated the repatriation of two female Lebanese civilians from Israel to Lebanon.
The handover operation took place in Ras Naqoura at the Israeli-Lebanese border in the presence of ICRC delegates, said the statement.
"Our role is strictly humanitarian and part of our ongoing work to restore and maintain contact between people detained or separated in connection with armed conflict and their families," said Juerg Montani, head of the ICRC delegation in Lebanon. "The ICRC is acting in its capacity as a neutral intermediary at the request of the families and the Israeli and Lebanese authorities and with the full consent of all parties concerned."
The ICRC has been permanently present in Lebanon since 1967 providing assistance and protection for civilian population affected by armed conflict and internal disturbances on a strictly neutral and impartial basis.
