Now Lebanon - Kataeb says cabinet “must not be selective” in dealing with international resolutions - July 11, 2011

The Kataeb party issued a statement on Monday warning that the new Lebanese cabinet “must not be selective” in its commitment to international resolutions, a reference to the UN-backed Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL).
The statement said that the government’s policy statement shows that it is not “practically responding” to UN Security Council Resolution 1757 that established the STL, a reference to the Ministerial Statement clause that says the cabinet is “in principle” committed to the international tribunal.
“The cabinet’s position vis-a-vis this issue [is forcing] Lebanon to confront the international [community], a move that might have [negative] repercussions on the country,” the statement added.
The Kataeb party also called on the government to speed up the measures to acquire its offshore gas field through coordinating with the UN.
The STL indicted four members of the Iranian-and Syrian-backed Hezbollah in connection to the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, however the party’s secretary general, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, ruled out their arrest.
On Monday, President Michel Sleiman warned Israel over the demarcation of the shared maritime border.
Meanwhile, Israel's cabinet on Sunday approved a map of the country's proposed maritime borders with Lebanon to be submitted for a UN opinion.
