Now Lebanon - NLP welcomes STL indictment - July 01, 2011

The National Liberal Party’s higher council met on Friday and issued a statement welcoming the Special Tribunal for Lebanon’s (STL) indictment, calling it “the first step towards the truth.”
“The STL’s indictment will put an end to political assassinations and terrorist crimes… and will motivate Lebanese people to reject violence and support the state’s constitution and institutions,” the statement said.
The statement also called on the cabinet to unambiguously accept the indictment and cooperate with the tribunal.
National unity is impossible without reconciliation, and there can be no reconciliation without the truth, the party added.
The UN-backed international court on Thursday issued its indictment and arrest warrants for the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, with members of Hezbollah reportedly among those named.
Al-Manar television dismissed the court as "politicized" and said it bore the mark of being at the service of intelligence agencies.
The Iranian- and Syrian-backed Shia group has warned it would "cut off the hand" of anyone who attempts to arrest party members linked to the February 14, 2005 seaside bombing that killed Hariri and 22 others.
