Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdel Karim Ali said on Friday that the leaks on the Special Tribunal for Lebanon’s (STL) indictment stripped the charges of much of their credibility.
“Israeli media welcomed the [STL’s indictment] and leaked its content days before it was published,” the National News Agency quoted him saying after visiting Prime Minister Najib Mikati in the Grand Serail.
Ali also welcomed Mikati’s comments on the indictment, adding that he submitted to the PM an open invitation to visit Syria.
The Syrian envoy also denied reports that an STL delegation visited Syria.
The UN-backed international court on Thursday issued its indictment and arrest warrants for the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, with members of Hezbollah reportedly among those named.
Al-Manar television dismissed the court as "politicized" and said it bore the mark of being at the service of intelligence agencies.
The Iranian- and Syrian-backed Shia group has warned it would "cut off the hand" of anyone who attempts to arrest party members linked to the February 14, 2005 seaside bombing that killed Hariri and 22 others.
