Now Lebanon - Ban reportedly requests Lebanon give more money to STL, October 10, 2011

As-Safir newspaper reported that UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon requested that Lebanon pay more money to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) following the increase of the value of the Euro and other currencies.According to the daily, Ban sent a letter to Lebanon via its Permanent Representative to the United Nations requesting more funds. However, Lebanon’s contribution of the STL funding would remain 49 percent. The UN-backed tribunal is funded by an assortment of donor countries from around the world as well as Lebanon. However, Hezbollah and other March 8 parties and figures have spoken out against Lebanon’s ties and funding for the tribunal and called it a tool to incite sectarian strife in Lebanon.
Four Hezbollah members have been indicted by the STL probing the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. However, the Shia group strongly denied the charges and refuses to cooperate with the court.
