Future bloc MP Samir Jisr said on Thursday that the funding of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) should have been accomplished through constitutional institutions.
“The [step] to fund the STL has good consequences, but the way it was funded was [wrong] because it was supposed to happen through constitutional institutions,” Jisr told Future News TV.
Jisr also said that Prime Minister Najib Mikati “gained some credibility” by funding the STL.
Mikati announced on Wednesday that he transferred Lebanon’s annual share of funding to the UN-backed court probing the 2005 murder of ex-Premier Rafik Hariri.
However, Mikati did not specify the process through which the STL funds were transferred.

The Netherlands-based court has indicted four Hezbollah operatives in connection with the murder but they have not surrendered to the court.
Lebanon is responsible for providing 49 percent of the STL's financing, which amounts to some $35 million (25.2 million euros) this year.
